You pick what a breakup looks like.
Choose one rule when you start, and see what it means with your own numbers before you sign. Below, Jordan has $3,000 in the pot and Sam has $2,000.
A
Everyone gets theirs back
Each of you leaves with what you put in, plus your share of interest. No one forfeits anything.
Jordan gets $3,000. Sam gets $2,000.
Default
B
Leaver pays
Whoever ends it forfeits a share of their standing to the other partner.
At 25%, if Jordan leaves: Jordan gets $2,250, Sam gets $2,750.
Subject to legal review
C
At-fault forfeits
If the arbiter finds one of you at fault under definitions you chose, that partner forfeits a share to the other.
At 25%, if Sam is found at fault: Jordan gets $3,500, Sam gets $1,500.
Subject to legal review
D
Forfeit to charity
The leaver's or at-fault partner's share goes to a charity you picked together, not to the other partner.
At 25%, if Jordan leaves: Jordan gets $2,250, Sam gets $2,000, $750 goes to charity.
Available
Availability varies by state. Whatever you pick, either of you can always leave safely.
Your options
Chosen once, at signup, by both of you.
- How much is at stake
- For B, C and D, pick 10, 25 or 50% of the forfeiting partner's standing, and no higher.
- What counts as fault
- For C, and D with the fault trigger, tick which apply: cheating; ending contributions without notice for 60 or more days; abandoning the relationship without notice. The arbiter can't add others.
- Who triggers a charity forfeit
- For D, choose whether it's the partner who leaves, or the partner found at fault.
- Which charity
- For D, you choose it together at signup. Forfeited money never goes to your ex.
- Changing your mind
- You can change your rule later. Both of you sign the new version, and it takes effect 30 days after, so nobody can switch rules on the way out.
- Your state
- Which rules you can pick depends on where you live. The app shows you before you choose.
How each ending works
These four endings apply whatever rule you chose.
You both agree to end it
Everyone gets their own money back, whatever rule you chose. Under C, or D with the fault trigger, either of you can still file a fault claim within 14 days.
One of you ends it
The partner who taps 'End the pot' is the leaver, and your rule applies to them.
Someone was at fault
Under C, or D with the fault trigger, either of you can file a claim. The arbiter decides. If no fault is found, everyone gets theirs back.
Someone needs to leave now
The safety exit closes the pot at once. Undisputed money is released; only the amount that could be forfeited waits for the arbiter.
What happens if…
Pick a rule and an ending to see the result. The app shows the same preview with your own numbers before you sign.
Jordan has $3,000 in the pot. Sam has $2,000.
Jordan is the leaver, so Jordan's share goes to Sam.
